After winning 4 friendlies out of 4 in Switzerland, the team returned to WHL for the final pre-season preparations against Celtic and Juventus. Fielding a 2nd team against Celtic, Tottenham surprisingly (or not) surrendered to a 4-0 defeat with all 4 goals coming in the first half. Cerny had no idea how the goals flew in with no protection at the back.
The fans were not best pleased but new signing Van Dar Vaart started the final friendly against Juventus. New centre back Tudor was also signed from Hadjuk in time to play in the game. The match was won by a single goal by Del Piero and Tottenham suffered 2 straight losses in front of the loyal fans.
The team was depleted by injuries to Lee YP, King, Dawson, Lennon, BAE. Attempt to loan Solari to solve the LM problem is dented by Inter who refused to release him.
The first league match was at home against a Blackburn side with McCarthy, Santa Cruz in attack, supported by MGP and Bentley on the flanks. Spurs started with Routledge on the RM and Steed on the left. Keane and Berbs were given the starting place up front.
Tugay was sent off for an elbow on Rocha on the 25 minute mark but despite dominating the match, with all 4 forwards used one time or another, Spurs could not find a way past MOM Brad Friedel. The match ended 0-0.
Next up is an away trip to Pompey.
