| CURRANT BUN:
Tottenham boss Juande Ramos is planning a move for £3m rated Sporting Lisbon starlet Adrien Silva.
DAILY HEIL:
Tottenham have reportedly joined the chase for ex-Manchester City winger Albert Riera. The Spaniard spent the latter part of the 2006/07 season on loan at Eastlands and impressed for Stuart Pearce's side. However, City did not push through a permanent deal and Riera, who has also had spells with Real Mallorca and Bordeaux, returned to Espanyol.
Since moving back to Barcelona he has shone and has even been called in to the Spanish squad - earning his first cap earlier this year. He is contracted to Espanyol until 2009, but they are looking to tie him down to a new contract to fend off the interest which is now emerging.
Spurs were amongst a clutch of clubs to send scouts to the Barcelona derby at the weekend to watch Riera. Spurs coach Juande Ramos is well aware of Riera's capabilities from his time in Spain and may see the 25-year-old as the ideal solution to the club's long-standing issue of a left-sided midfielder.
Riera himself is calm about his future but he admits he could not rule out a move back to England: "I do not say anything about those things. It does to demonstrate that I am working at a good level. I know the Premier League and this competition has a lot of quality and it is not only about the money."

| We need someone like Riera now Bale is injured. Absolutely nobody in our current squad has a left foot now Bale and BAE are out! | |

| Madness playing Lennon on the left! I just can't believe how we haven't signed anyone for that position since Andy Reid! Who was the last decent left-winger we had, Chris Waddle?! | |

Good point, I am an idiot for forgetting about him. What an absolutely wonderful footballer. That goal he scored at Barnsley in the cup was majestic.

| After weeks of wild speculation from all the newspapers and websites, TPC can finally reveal the names of the two players who are at the top of the wanted list constructed by Spurs boss Juande Ramos. RCD Espanyol lynchpin Daniel Jarque is the first. The centre-back was the rock on which the Barcelona-based side built their defence as they progressed to the final of the UEFA Cup last season, where they were beaten by Ramos’ Sevilla. Jarque will turn 25-years-old at the start of the transfer window but already has played over 100 league games and 22 UEFA Cup matches as well as winning the Spanish League Cup in 2006. Spurs will certainly have a job convincing Espanyol to sell, and the player to come to White Hart Lane after he declared his intention to take the side he joined as a youth team player to the next level when signing a new four-year contract at the start of the summer. The second target, also an Espanyol player, is a more surprising one - Albert Riera. The tricky left-footed midfielder made 36 league appearances for the Catalan team and scored four times last season following his arrival from Bordeaux in 2006. The former Mallorca winger, 25, hardly pulled up any trees during a brief loan spell with Manchester City, but has come on leaps and bounds since arriving at Espanyol. He scored the club’s first goal in last season’s UEFA Cup final and broke into the Spain squad, scoring on his debut in Denmark. He was also rewarded for his displays with a two-year contract extension, supposedly keeping him at the club until 2011. With both players on long contracts they will not come cheaply but the lure of playing for a big English club, with a Spanish manager, may be enough to convince them to move to London. Whether Spurs have the cash to bring both to White Hart Lane is another matter, with outgoings possibly needed before bringing new blood into the side. TPC and COYS sources believe that Spurs are expected to try to secure the deals as early in the transfer window as possible in the hope of quickly integrating the players into the side. http://www.clubfanzine.com/tottenham_hotspur/showNews.php?id=6582 | |
