In the SUN !!!! so it must be true Laughing

Fred 'to complete Spurs switch in 24 hours'

Fred will be a Spurs player tomorrow is reports are to be believed
Brazil star Fred hopes to complete his £8.5million move to Tottenham in the next 24 hours reports The Sun.

The striker is set to turn down PSG and that will almost certainly mean Jermain Defoe leaving the Lane.

Lyon star Fred, 24, said: "I hope my future will be sorted on Wednesday. I have two offers, one from Tottenham and one from Paris St Germain.

"The president of Lyon has said I would prefer to go to PSG but that's not true. I've not agreed terms with any club but I'm waiting for them to come back to me."

Defoe, 25, insists he wants to stay with Tottenham, despite being told last week by boss Juande Ramos that he can go.

But Fred's switch would push the England hitman down to fifth in the pecking order.

Portsmouth boss Harry Redknapp is standing by to offer him a way out with a move to Fratton Park.

Fred looks Spurs bound
Damien Comolli to meet Brazilian ace
By Graeme Bailey Last updated: 16th January 2008

Lyon striker Fred is due to meet with Tottenham in the next 48 hours and is now expected to seal a move to North London.

The Brazilian is being allowed to leave by the French champions and they have accepted bids from Paris Saint Germain and Spurs, whilst Middlesbrough, Manchester City and Portsmouth also had an interest.

Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas wanted Fred to move to Paris, but he left the decision with the player and his representatives, and they now appear close to striking a deal with Spurs - after previously rebuffing an offer from Tottenham.

Fred's brother and agent Rodrigo confirmed that they would be meeting Spurs' director of football Damien Comolli in the next day or so.

"Yes we are due to meet with Damien Comolli, he will come with a new offer," Rodrigo told L'Equipe.

"If it [the offer] is good, Fred will sign for Tottenham."

Should Fred, as expected, agree terms with Tottenham - then they will sign him a deal worth 12million euros (£9million).

Fred's arrival will further bolster Spurs' attacking options, despite the fact they can already boast a world-class quartet in the shape of Robbie Keane, Dimitar Berbatov, Darren Bent and Jermain Defoe.

Fred's arrival could signal the departure of one of those four - with only Keane having not been linked with a move away from White Hart Lane this month

You need a new central midfielder and a left winger in the summer, what do you do? Spend 16.5m on a striker who will sit on the bench of course.

The same problems remain in January and you've already sacked one manager cos he cdn't sort them out, so what do you do? Spend 10m on another striker to sit next to the 16.5m striker on the bench of course!

I know what you're saying Janek, seems odd. But looking at those video clips he looks quite tasty and not too disimilar to Berbatov. Only hope we can get rid of Bent in the meantime. I also think he's got a cool Starsky & Hutch circa 1970s hairstyle.........which is nice!

Reported that Defoe is in Birmingham for talks with Villa.

Looks like Defoe to Villa and Fred to Spurs, possibly by the end of the week.

Lyon striker Fred insists he wants to stay with the six-time French champions.

The Brazilian forward has been the subject of on-going speculation and had looked certain to move away from Stade Gerland.

Paris St Germain, Tottenham, Portsmouth and Middlesbrough had all been suggested as possible destinations for Fred.

But after PSG dropped their interest in the striker, Fred announced that he wanted to stay and fight for his place in Alain Perrin's side.

Staying

He said: "I'm staying. I hope to regain my top level and to give the best of myself to the team.

"I'm not going to talk about transfers any more. From this moment I'm 100 per cent here focused on my work.

"I know it won't be easy. I've talked to Marino Faccioli (administrative director) and the coach.

"I want to stay here at Lyon. There haven't been good offers for me."

Apparently he wanted 70k a week!

Maybe we won't sell Defoe now.
