Transfers and the media Empty
PostSubject: Transfers and the media   Transfers and the media EmptyFri May 30 2008, 13:36

Since the silly season is upon us again, I was thinking back over the last few seasons under ENIC's ownership about how often teh stories in the press are nonsense and how so many of our signings seem to come out of nowhere. Maybe this is a false impression, but let's see:

2008/09
Modric - more or less outta nowhere

2007/08
Woodgate - rumoured for few days
Hutton - on/off for a fortnight or so
Gilberto - small rumours
Gunter - from nowhere
Kaboul - on/off for ages (I remember a few of us toasting his signing at Coconuts at the start of the season! Shocked )
Bent - in the papers a while. the tussle with Wet Spam being well documented

2006/07
Steed - linked with the club for months
Zokora - more or less sudden
Berba - outta nowhere

So, with those few off the top of my head, it seems a real mix of total surprise transfers and those that everyone knew about.

Thoughts?

Earlier:
Defoe - completely outta nowhere
Keano - ditto

Blimey! It must be old age but my memory doesn't serve me that well James. I guess Modric did come out the blue and so too Bostock. If signings like Capel and Jarque materialise then these two have been talked about since January transfer window. Dunne is a surprise name too.

Looks like Dunne is going for his medical at the lane and the Sun has an exclusive claiming we have a handshake deal on dos Santos!

NOT IN A MILLION YEARS would I have spoken the words Giovanni Dos Santos and Richard Dunne in the same sentence!

Shocked
