Advice needed

Had quite a shock this week on the medical front and as a result have been prescribed some pretty nasty medicine with potentially very serious side effects. I need to take Imuran (an immunosuppresant) and Prednisone (a corticosteroid). On top of that I have to have blood tests every two weeks to ensure nothing untoward is happening. My gastroenterologist here in Oz is not keen on my returning to HK while I'm having the treatment but if I want to keep my job, I have to return. Plus, more importantly, I want to savour the atmosphere of watching Spurs games with equally passionate fans - something sadly lacking here in Brisbane. My dilemma (question) is this. Does anyone know of a good, reliable doctor in HK who could monitor my blood levels and liaise with my specialist in Brisbane. I have only been to a doc three times in HK - once in Shatin (cheap but utterly useless) and Brian Walker in Central - excellent but a quite pricey. I don't have any medical insurance and now I guess it would be too late to take insurance out. So cost is a factor. Any suggestions? And one more bad thing - while on Prednisone I shouldn't drink alcohol....... and I so love my black sambucas

Hope all is well for you John. I do not have any good doctors to recommend but I am sure someone here will point you to the right direction (Where is the doctor we need at SIHK!!!!).

Health comes first and if you need time to take a treatment in Brisbane, take your time - there is no rush to be back in HK - I can sue the bastards if they fire you for medical reasons since there is now this Discrimination Ordinance in place.

What sort of doctor do you need in HK, John, a GP or a specialist? Brian Walker has just started working at our Quarry Bay clinic (as well as maintaining his Central practice), I can get you his details if you want them. Probably a bit cheaper (though you'd need to check) would be George Vasilopoulos, an Australian GP at Anderson and Partners in Prince's Building.

If you just need a GP to take blood and send results over to Australia, you can probably find someone much cheaper out of Central - where do you live? Let me know and I'll see if I can make some enquiries on your behalf.

Thanks for the support guys. I'll follow up your suggestions and see how things go. I've been on the drugs for three days now and so far my hair hasn't fallen out, I haven't put on any weight, and I'm no more psychotic than normal It's quite perverse that this is happening as outwardly I feel as fit as a fiddle (well, relatively speaking)and had no idea that nasty things were happening inside me. Not sure how I'm going to be able to get through a Spurs match without a drink (not even allowed coffee or tea, bugger!) but I will. Really hope you get a great turnout on Sat night. Let the whole of Wanchai know that the Yids are back in town.

fair enough. That I cannot argue with.

Plus if he's like a lot of locals he will have a very low tolerance for acohol and get drunk and scarlet-faced with even a half of Worthington E - not cool when you'er trying to impress the girls. Abstinence is a far more sensible course.

Didn't start drinking till I was 17 actually, was never that bothered with it.

Health is the most important thing; jobs are two a penny......and as James says, he can sue the bar stewards for you if necessary. Alternatively, we can send Hairy and Daniel round to make them an offer they can't refuse
