PostSubject: IKEA   IKEA EmptySun Sep 02 2007, 23:10

I've just watched some guy put togethe a loft bed, a sofa and a shelf unit from IKEA - all in about an hour and a bit. If I'd try to do it myself I may just be finishing the shelf unit, the easiest of the three, and would be trying and failing to put the other two together for the next week. If ever there was a better spent $150, I'd like to know what I'd get for my money.

And I think Daniel may be in agreement, as the truck went from my place to his to drop off his new bits and pieces to his new oasis in the maelstrom that is Hong Kong.

I enjoy a bit of DIY so I'd have to disagree.

Save $150 = 3 beers at Dublin Jack !

And very probably is still not very pretty. How many screws did you have left over at the end, twiglet?

I am more than happy to let the IKEA guy sort my things out. However, I do also enjoy making IKEA furniture just that yesterday, after a loooooooong week, I was more than happy for them to sort it out.

70% of my furniture come from IKEA. For the big furniture like my bed, I will let them to fix it as it looks complicated and heavy. I won't suggust to buy bed in IKEA as the quality are so so.

Sam, I took my Ikea bed to peices, moved to the new apartment and I re-buit it and it's fine. I was amazed. However, yes, the quality is so so.

What I hate my bed is that it's structure is not strong enough. Everytime I turn my body or do anything on my bed, my bed will have some noise. I think their contact point or the screw is not strong enough.scratch

It's all to do with the 'screw', I reckon sunny

A few years back, I bought some really nice shelving units from Ikea. Got them back to my place in Brissie, spent 3 hours pushing, pulling, kicking and swearing before I eventually gave up and took the whole lot back. Don't think there was an option to have someone assemble it for you. No self-respecting Aussie would stand for that. Luckily I'm not an Aussie, and not self-respecting at all Shocked

Well it's one thing to admit it in public, but to also describe the quality of your IKEA 690105 is a whole new ball game.
