MIDDLESBROUGH boss Gareth Southgate has told potential suitors that Stewart Downing is not for sale.
Tottenham Hotspur are long term admirers of the England winger and Everton have also recently been linked with the 22-year-old.
"I'm not surprised clubs are interested but that is as far as it goes," Gareth Southgate told the club website.
"Stewart is definitely not for sale, so other clubs would be wasting their time even considering making an offer."
He added: "Stewart is such a good player and is now an established player in the England squad.
"The idea that we would want to sell the likes of Stewart is way off-target.
"We are looking to play an attractive brand of winning football next season - and Stewart will be a major part in that."
