Our fate in the next round of the Wafer is outlined below for you.

If Getafe-Anderlecht (19-12-07) is a draw, we win the group and will play a third-placed UEFA team next round

If Getafe-Anderlecht is a draw, we will be second in the group and play a Champions League drop-out.

In either case, the second leg of the tie will be at the Lane.

The 24 clubs qualified from the group stage will be joined by the eight clubs
that finish the group stage of the UEFA Champions League in third position
(see paragraph 1.05 d).
The round of 32 pairings are determined by means of a draw. This round is
played according to the cup (knock-out) system, with each club playing each
opponent twice, in home and away matches (two legs). The UEFA
administration ensures that the following principles are respected.
a) Clubs from the same association shall not be drawn against each other.
b) The group-winners of a given group shall be drawn against one of the
third-ranked teams from another group.
c) The runners-up of a given group shall be drawn against one of the eight
clubs joining the competition from the group stage of the UEFA
Champions League
.
d) Group-winners and runners-up shall play the return leg at home.

Nice work #10! I take this to mean that we are assured of not bumping into the Scoucers in our next game?

[I had a really funny pic of Liverpool fans here, but I buggered if I can work out how to upload it so you'll have to imagine it...]

Are you sure James? Surely it depends on how they decide differences betweeen teams? If it's done on a head to head basis and Getafe draw, we would be second as we lost to them. If Getafe lose then Anderlecht win the group and we're still second. So, to summarise, I think we'll finish second regardless of what happens in the last game, assuming the positions are decided on head to head. And, no, I can't be bothered to read the rules and find out - I thought I'd leave it to the likes of you and Janek who have more time on your hands.

I'm too busy researching the best champagne brunches in East Timor for my new book, "Champagne brunching around Asia" to look at this, apologies.

6.06 If two or more teams are equal on points on completion of all the group matches, the following criteria will be applied to determine the rankings:

a) superior goal difference from all group matches played;
b) higher number of goals scored;
c) higher number of goals scored away;

No 10 is right. Makes sense too as it would be unfair to compare head to head for an one-leg match, with one playing at home and the other away (although couldn't say this in our case as we lost at home to Getafe)

Laughing Thanks James. So a draw is definitely the result we're looking for.

I love the smell of a permutation in the morning.

It's the smell of...of...it's the smell of victory!
