Mandarin Oriental is superbly located and next door is the Shangri La hotel if you are a cheapskate. MO has a boat that takes you up and down the river and also to Wat Arun which imho is one of the finest temples in Bangkok.

Sheraton is suppose to be good.
When i visit BKK it's usually on business - our company has a corporate rate at Westin. It's okay. Right next door is Soi Cowboy......

Banyan Tree is good, but not centrally located.
Le Meridien is excellent. Location is good too.

Does anyone have a book on BKK to lend to Janek. He'll return it April 2011.
