Shocked

Basically it says that (according to the Evening Standard) Spurs are in discussions with Barcelona for a swap deal involving Berbatov and Eto'o.

It adds that both players have 2 years remaining on their contracts and both have expressed their desire to move on. (bit of conjection there perhaps).

Ramos is also interested in David Villa but Chelsea are keen too.

... did anyone see Mikael Forssell's goal for Birminghan this weekend? Yet another great goal. I wonder whether he's a greatly under-rated talent who could do a good job.

He reminds me a bit of Gudjohnsen (? spelling) at Chelsea a couple of seasons ago and Ole the Gunner for United. Great players to come off the bench and make an impact.

Your thoughts?

Have been a fan of Forssell for a long time but I just feel he wouldn't work out.

Eto'o - cant imagine it!

not really... if BerbaI'moff does go - where are the goals are going to come from - Darren Bent? This is the most crucial area of the team to sort out.

Fellow Yids

Have read that spurs may try to do a swap Eto for Berba , as both have two yrs left on there contracts . Would still like to see Spurs keep Berba , just to show other clubs that they can not keep raiding clubs for players . Coys

Spurs to bid for £40m superstar that would surely make Berbatov reconsider leaving!

April 29, 2008

No one can doubt Tottenham’s ambitions and now that Luka Modric has arrived it appears that more plans are afoot to smash the transfer record at White Hart Lane.

Tottenham boss Juande Ramos has dramatically hinted at his very real interest in bidding for £40m rated Barcelona star Samuel Eto’o.
“You cannot do anything overnight, since it is a project that we undertake for the next five seasons, and for great achievements we need big players like Eto’o and Modric, just to move.” (Sportske Novosti)

Could it happen? Eto’o is not happy at Barcelona and it does seem possible he will leave, but could it really happen that he would move to Spurs? JR is clearly a well respected boss, especially in Spain where he did such a marvelous job at Sevilla, maybe the Cameroonian sees that with the right investment Tottenham could become a force to be reckoned with. What do WHL fans think, could it really happen? Surely this kind of signing or even the hint of such a signing should keep Berbs from heading for the exit.

... I think it could actually.

I"ll always remember Eto'o teasing shitcunt Campbell for a laugh a couple of years ago when we were close to signing him. Brilliant!

The Premier League's success, Tottenham's growing force and clear potential to form a new Top 5, British clubs growing influence in CL, General Ramos' reputation and the draw of London might... just might... come together and see Eto'o finally put pen to paper for Spurs.

... and what a signing he'd be ! bounce

Gonna have to be a whole new wage structure if we're seriously considering signing the likes of Eto'o and Villa. Highly unlikely in my opinion, but here's hoping.

Agree. But I think we can get around that issue with "loyalty" payments etc etc.

Loving the ambition.

it's the same every summer - we get linked with everyone that's half decent out there - either it's pure newspaper crap, or we are used as pawns in the negotiations with "bigger" clubs.

Modric was a good signing (from what I hear about him) - but seemed to be an opportunistic poach, rather than really going head-to-head with a Champions League club. In addition he has come direct from the Croatian league and reports I've seen are that his salary is c. 30K/week. Easy to fit into the existing wage structure.

Star players coming from clubs like Chelsea, Barcelona, AC Milan etc are likely to all be paid well in excess of our highest earners (even after creative accounting with sign-on fees, bonuses etc) - will we really break the mould? Or will these player really come to WHL on a lower package?

We're always ambitious or that is what we are led to believe - yes we've made some great signings over the years - but look at our Team of the Week from last friday.

Been fooled by this smokescreen (season ticket renewal time is it?) too often - will be playing the wait and see game this time. My optimism that has been there at the end of the last few seasons has seriously waned this time round with the recent batch of uninspiring results. Maybe this is a good thing for the club for once - with many fans not having head in the clouds expectations over the summer - and therefore next season maybe we won't be disappointed.
