| I'll be in Blighty til 1st September and will join u for matches thereafter.
BTW, it'll be my birthday at the end of August, so I''ll try and set up some drinks etc on the first weekend back, maybe friday the 7th at whichever local we settle on?

| I am checking with them now to see if the Sunderland v Tottenham will be shown live - it should be.
Also a mate of mine that plays golf with Noel Smyth (the MD of Delaney's) told him we want a bigger discount. Noel said he will call me on that, but the only sure way to get a bigger discount is to guarantee bigger numbers in the bar for LIVE games.
Anyway, the Sunderland game will be on at happy hour anyway, so for the first live match this season prices should not be an issue. The same for the other bars as well I guess.
I am also checking with them to see about recording the Kaiser Chiefs v Tottenham match on the 21st of this month.

| I very much doubt that the new Skitz will be open by then, but you never know, and looking at the design and having visited it it's best that it's not used as a venue, too small.
Unless I'm mistaken can someone please tell me why upstairs at Delaneys keeps getting picked seeing as it's been closed for eons. Has it re-opened?
I doubt whether I'll be able to get away for that Saturday so I'm voting for my bar in Pak Sha Wan. However should I be able to sort it out I'll be joining wherever, so keep me posted.

Think you might be mistaken - has never been closed in my 7 years here and was definitely open a few weeks ago. You might be thinking of somewhere else or maybe of the Thai restaurant that used to be on the 2nd floor and has now moved down to occupy what used to be a spillover bar for Delaneys.

| I was referring to 'Delaney's Sports Bar' which is on the firt floor of One Capital Place. It's a good sized bar and devoted to the football above all other things - unless there's some massive Rugby World Cup game on. Incidently, the Rugby World Cup starts on September 7th and runs through to October 20th.
It's being refurbished at the moment, but they have assured it will be open well before the season starts. They had also confirmed that the Spurs game will be on there.
Was chatting to someone last night who was in Bulldogs last season for a Chelsea live match. They said that the band came on halfway through the game, so they left. Not sure if that policy has changed since (in 'actuality').
As for the first LIVE match, I am willing to go with the flow, however if we do NOT decide on Delaney's I'll need to let them know.
Cheers,
Stew. | |

Stew - I did raise the same concern earlier. I've been to Bulldog's after an earlier Spurs game in Delaney's, and yes, the band was playing. However, I think Sean, who knows the bar manager said they've already agreed not to play music providing there are enough people watching the game.

| Yes Moses told me that the other day as well, when I saw him outside Maya Bar.
The only problem is how many is 'enough' people? In reality if they have asked the band to come in, they are not going to ask them to sit there drinking shandy because there are 15 Spurs fans in the house as opposed to 10 Spurs fans.
Anyway - options remain open!!

| I will be there in whichever bar is decided (so long as BEER is served in abundance I really don't mind ) I will also bring along an Aussie mate that I have converted into a yid (meant I had to return the favour and start shouting for the West Coast Eagles in the AFL ) Can't wait for the Season to start....... | I vote Delaneys on the basis that if it is indeed shitpot we can try another place for the next games and dispel the myth once and for all BUT if it is good (and the discounts mooted etc are not just hot air) then we can use it as our base. | |

| I've done the same. I'm not a huge fan of Delaney's ( as you all know ), however I also have doubts about Bulldog so I'm happy to start the season with Delaney's. | |

| Feels like a restaurent guide review. " tame atmosphere, poorly arranged sitting and not enough ventilation. Decent selection of beers, slightly over priced and not enough staff for match days. Roast beer is a must and don't go home without trying the carrot 'n' ginger soup. Overall verdict : | |

| There's also Champs Sports Bar at the Charterhouse Hotel in Wanchai. Large venue, inexpensive beer but one big problem - NO SMOKING! As a fair few of us are the smoking types and with the added pressure and stress of watching a Spurs game (cigarettes needed), we do need a smoking venue! | |
