Wife and I are looking to take a short break to Sydney next month - cash in on some asiamiles point. Is 4 full days enough time to see Sydney ?

Any hotel recommendation ?

Jeremy, I am sure there are other people who are a lot more qualified to answer your question, but I went there as a tourist with Ellen last year and had a great time.

I must recommend Hotel Rendezvous http://www.rendezvous.com.au/sydney_select.aspx. Excellent location near the Rocks and a great view of the Opera House from your room. Very reasonably priced. .Check out hot deals on wotif.com.

I also stayed at another hotel for 2 nights close to Darling Harbour (where all the nice restaurants are). Can't recall the name at the moment but can find that out.

4 days are enough if you stay in the city and the nearby beaches like Bondi. Do the bridgewalk - it's really nice. We hired a car and drove to Blue Mountains and stayed there for 2 nights. We also drove to Port Stephens and spent a night there.

Cheers James.

I'm tempted to prolong our stay a couple of extra nights.

Bit busy at work at the moment but I'll try to post something about Sydney in the next day or two. It's a great place and it's well worth extending your stay, if you can.

Ozspur - thanks to asiamiles, Sydney is looking less likely to happen.

Not given up hope yet though.

KK is looking a possible option.

Kota Kinabalu? Magnificent place as well. You must do scuba dive. Even though I am not good at waters, I tried scuba diving there and it was really worth it.

James - correct. Plus point is we have enough points for 4 nights at the Shangri-la.

Definitely leaning towards KK.

Spent 5 years living in Brunei, next to Sabah. Know KK well. It all depends what you want to do. Climbing Mt Kinabalu is great but takes minimum two days. Poring hot springs....... so so. White-water rafting is an excellent day trip from KK. Sipadan - magnificent but too far from KK. Orang-utan sanctuary is interesting but once again not close to KK. The off-shore islands near KK are okish, as is the weekend market. 4 or 5 days lounging around KK might be fine but, to be honest, I reckon you'd need to spend a day white-water rafting, a day out at the islands and possibly a day trip to Mt Kinabalu Nat Park to look at the mountain but not climb it.

Given a choice, Sydney would win hands down for me, but with AsiaMiles (spit spit), you'd be lucky to get anything. Have never got any flight request ever...... and I've tried many times. Suppose that's one of the disadvantages of always having to travel in school holidays.

Thanks for the advice guys.

Ozspur - at the moment I can't even get a confirmation for a full fare flight to Sydney, never mind Asiamiles.

Phoned Asiamiles last night to ask what they have got available. KK is one option - Singapore another.

If they will confirm KK, do it. I've all but given up with AsiaeffingMiles.
