Champions League verses UEFA cup money

England's Champions League representatives earned more in the group stages than Tottenham did for reaching the UEFA Cup quarter-finals last season.

That was one of the findings in a breakdown of revenue from last season's European club competitions, published yesterday by UEFA.

The four English Champions League qualifiers each got £3,646,272 for being in the group stages, while Tottenham earned £2,917,724 for their 10-game run.

Arsenal received the lowest sum due to their fourth-placed Premiership finish in 2006 and their failure to progress beyond the last 16.

However, they still received £10million more than Tottenham.

The inequality highlights the gulf between the Premier League's top four, who consistently qualify for the Champions League, and the rest.

Perhaps the most damning statistic is that Levski Sofia made £3,755,587 from losing all six Champions League group games, around £500,000 less than Sevilla got for winning the UEFA Cup.

Is that true? Wouldn't we have to at least get past the qualifiers and into the group stages to get into that earing bracket?

they certainly made some decent wedge just by getting into the CL qualifying places. By the way, I love Newcastle getting 300 grand.

What those numbers don't include are extra gate receipts.

Apart from Bayern, watch out for those teams that dropped out from the Champ League groups.

That begs a long-standing question of mine...

How much DO Spurs get from 1 match gate receipts (including the juicy corporate boxes, F&B, shirts sales, etc) ?

I estimate 36,600 X an AVERAGE ticket price of say, 60 quid, would get the ball rolling at around 2.2 Mil... probably throw in another 400k from corporate boxes .. and those 5 UEFA Cup home games equate to another 12 - 15Mil to the coffers.

Throw in the UEFA payout of 3.6 Mil + ITV Deals and we are looking at 20 Mil.......That's some serious wedge on top of what we get from Sky !
