THE DAILY STAR are reporting that West Ham United have won the race to sign Darren Bent for £18million.

Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool are also interested in the England international, but West Ham are said to have offered Charlton £15million in cash plus Hayden Mullins and Marlon Harewood moving to the Addicks. Bent has been offered a massive £80,000 per week salary at Upton Park.

Should the deal go through then Bent's former club Ipswich Town will net a windfall of around £2.5million from a sell-on clause in Bent's contract.

If that's even close to true it is beyond ridiculous - let's hope they get relegated with Bent, Parker and whoever else they sign on idiotic contracts dragging them down and whining about playing in the Championship.

Curbs is basically turning them into the New Charlton. Expect a flying start to the season and then the tail offf around March. Repeat for 3 or 4 seasons, add over-expactant Wham fans, throw in a dash of a sacked Curbs and leave to relegation in around 4 or 5 seasons.

I wouldn't go over $7M for Bent. There are better strikers in the game than him at lower price.
